Ayurvedic Treatment of Acid Reflux
Ayurveda is a form of ancient treatment in India. The origin of the treatment dates back to thousand of years and believes in holistic treatment In these treatment, each individual is studied separately and treatment meted out as per individual’s need.
The basic principle of Ayurvedic treatment is to identify the “doshas”. Doshas means faults. As per Ayurveda , there are three doshas: vatta, pitta, kapha. These doshas controls the body’s well being. All these doshas must be maintained properly balanced and should work in tandem for proper functioning of the body. Whenever, any one of the three doshas is out of balance with the other two, it will give rise to ailment in the body.
As per Ayurveda, the Acid Reflux is caused due to sub-category “Pitta Dosha” or Pachaka. The Pachaka Pitta is situated in duodenum and intestine. Interestingly, modern science also points out to stomach as the place of trouble for Acid Reflux.
The Pachaka Pitta is thrown out of balance due to such food intake, which is not favored by the stomach. So, Ayurveda advocates avoidance of food that tends to relax the lower esophageal sphincter which includes food that is oily, spicy, hot, sour or fermented staff, food with artificial preservatives, food containing chemicals and color. Alcohol and tobacco are also advised to be avoided since they create aggravation of the Pachaka Doshas.
Treatment by Ayurvedic way of Acid Reflux includes consumption of food and herbs that will subside or pacify the “Pitta dosha” and includes rice, whole wheat, organic barley, dark green leafy vegetables, other vegetables like okra, broccoli, cabbage, asparagus, cauliflower. No fast food should be taken by persons suffering from Acid Reflux. Ayurvedic treatment includes Yoga exercise where proper breathing forms an integral part of importance. Yoga is advocated to be of great significance to combat pacification of various agitated doshas. |
